New Orleans Saints coach moving to Dallas

February 11, 2011 - Sean Payton, head coach for the New Orleans Saints, has announced he and his family are relocating to Dallas, in a decision that has riled up the football team's Louisiana fanbase.

The coach released a statement through the team, saying it has been a dream for he and his family to return to the Dallas area ever since moving away when he was hired in New Orleans after serving as offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys.

"We feel that now is the best time to do this," said Payton. "It's a decision that I'm sure many families have to confront, and I don't know if there is any one right or wrong decision - just the best one you can make for your own family."

Saints General Manger Mickey Loomis said Payton has the team's full support in the manner, adding that he thinks the relocation will have no affect on Payton's ability to coach the team in New Orleans.

Fans, however, were somewhat less accepting. The Associated Press reported many took to internet message boards and radio call-in shows and expressed their disappointment that their Super Bowl-winning head coach - who, along with quarterback Drew Brees, had become a symbol of the city's rise since Hurricane Katrina - would move away.

However, a number of head coaches have had success despite living far from their teams - retired Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy made his offseason home in Florida, for example.
