Tips for loading a moving truck when relocating

August 20, 2012 - When relocating, families may not be using movers but could benefit from renting a moving truck. These tips can be helpful in efficiently packing and loading items into the truck when moving.

The first items that should be loaded into the truck are those that are large and heavy. Putting appliances and furniture in first will prevent having to rearrange these items last. Be sure to use padding to properly protect these items, as they can be the most expensive to repair and replace if not loaded correctly.

Long items, like beds and dressers should be loaded on the sides of the vehicle to maximize space. Those moving should invest in a mattress cover to prevent them from ripping or getting dirty.

After furniture and appliances are on the truck, heavier moving boxes should be loaded to avoid having heavy boxes or those with fragile items on top, where they can fall easily. Placing lighter boxes on top can be less of a risk, as they are generally not full of pricey or breakable things.
