California city goes solar

July 23, 2010 - Homebuyers who are eco-conscious might want to consider relocating to Lancaster, California.

That city has partnered with energy provider SolarCity to launch one of the most expansive solar projects in the nation. Residents, businesses, and non-profits in the town will be able to finance solar panels at affordable prices, completely converting their heating and energy sources to solar power. The company says that the move would save Lancaster citizens significantly on their energy bills. A Toyota dealership in town has already signed on to the program, and panels will be installed on its property free of charge.

"I'm delighted we will be offering a program which will allow Antelope Valley residents, businesses and non-profit organizations to go solar at an extremely affordable price," said Mayor R. Rex Parris. "As a City, we're dedicated to offering ways to help our community go green. We will all benefit from this program, which will help reduce our carbon footprint while creating a number of new jobs in our community."

When moving to a new home, families should consider how much utilities will cost at their new location.
