Prospective homebuyers may turn to newspapers, television

January 15, 2010 - Individuals who are searching for a new home may want to consider leaving their computers and opening a newspaper, as market analysts expect that online advertising among real estate companies will decrease in coming months.

While recent research from Borrell Associates, a consultancy for the advertising industry, suggests ads directed at homebuyers and renters will increase by 3 percent this year, many companies could be changing their marketing strategies, the Business Insider reports.

Analysts from the firm anticipate real estate companies will direct the bulk of their advertising to newspapers and television stations. Members of this industry are expected to increase their ad spending on newspapers by an average of 16 percent over the next year, according to researchers.

Real estate companies may also increase their use of social media for advertising purposes, PaidContent.org reports.

Consequently, individuals who are considering a move may want to begin using several media outlets to search for a new home.

Comparing different sources of real estate advertising could keep consumers abreast with trends in the market, which may give them the tools they will need to negotiate with homeowners as the industry begins to improve.
