When researching auto transport companies, price may be an important factor in choosing a company. CarShipping.org says that price is determined by the distance between the point of origination and destination, the date and season of the journey, the type of vehicle and the level of car transport service used.

Once a company has been decided, the website also advises people to make sure that they read and understand the contract, especially the guarantee clause. If the clause is provided, look to see what compensation they offer if the company does not live up to its promise, notes the website.

Also be sure to check the carrier's insurance policy and clarify to what extent your vehicle is covered, says CarShipping.org.

In preparing the car for the big trip, be sure to empty out all personal belongings and valuables. MoveAVehicle.com advises preparing the exterior of the car. Cracked or chipped windshields need to be repaired. Many companies will not move the vehicle until this has been done, notes the website.
