Moving to Missouri
Known as the "Gateway to the West," Missouri is located in the western north central U.S., ranking 19th in size. Mirroring the demographic, economic and political makeup of the nation with a mix of urban and rural culture, Missouri has long been considered a political bellwether state. Located near the geographical center of the U.S., Missouri first became a state in 1821. Today, the city of St. Louis is Missouri's largest metropolitan area and is located on eastern edge of the state along the banks of the Mississippi River. Annhesuer-Busch beer is produced and bottled in St. Louis, and the Gateway Arch is a landmark known worldwide. With all of these amenities and so much more, those moving to Missouri are sure to find an exciting state to call home.

Capital City: Jefferson City is the capital city of Missouri.

Population: Currently, 5.9 million people reside in Missouri.

Local Activities: There are plenty of fun things to do in Missouri. From taking Missouri wine tours to planning a Missouri golf vacation, the state of Missouri is full of great activities. If checking out a Vegas-style music show is your idea of a fun night, you can avoid flying all the way to Nevada; simply head to Branson for one of its outstanding music shows. Or, spend some time fishing, golfing or camping near St. Louis, enjoying the natural Midwest-style. You can even find many of the nation's best monuments and brightest memorials, including the Gateway Arch and the Jazz Museum in Kansas City. If you're up to it (and of age), take a tour of the headquarters of the Annhesuer-Busch beer company, founded in St. Louis. Not only will you get to see the infamous Clydesdale horses, but patrons over age 21 receive two free beers at the end of the tour. Feeling lucky? Located in the historical town of St. Louis, the Aeristar Casino is the premier place for gambling in Missouri. Multiple restaurants, poker, table games and slot machines are just a few of the reasons to visit the Ameristar Casino.

Economy: Missouri's economy remains diversified, with manufacturing, farming, trade, tourism, services, government, and mining as prime sources of income. Today, automobile and aerospace manufacturing are the state's leading industries, while soybeans and meat and dairy products are the most important agricultural commodities. The state's historic past, varied topography, and modern urban attractions have made tourism a growth industry in recent decades.

State Bird: The bluebird is the state bird of Missouri.

State Tree: The flowering dogwood is the state tree.

State Flower: The hawthorn is the state flower.

State Song: The state song is the "Missouri Waltz." It was written by James Royce Shannon.
