City Moving

Springfield, Ohio

Springfield, Ohio is a quintessentially American City, at least according to the 50th Anniversary edition of Newsweek. The year was 1983, the article was entitled “The American Dream” and it featured the lives of five Springfield families over a half-century period. Things have moved on since then and Springfield has a progressive look about it as it meets all the modern-day challenges that every free city around the world has to tackle. Today, Springfield’s population hovers around the 60,000 resident mark, and it seems they are content with their lifestyle. Those moving to Springfield will find an ideal apartment or home through our real estate listings.

History:
Springfield was founded by James Demint in 1801. During the early days activity around the town was dominated by various industrialists, which included a 1904 patent for the invention of an airplane designed by the Wright Brothers. Among other early arrivals was the Kelly Springfield Tire Company which was founded in 1894. The early 20th Century saw Springfield take on the nickname of the “Home City” as the town became synonymous for homes for orphans and the aged. Further industrialization occurred in the early 20th century with vehicle manufacturers arriving and by 1926 no less than ten automobile companies were operating in Springfield. International Harvester also set up base in a City now well positioned for rapid industrial expansion into the 20th Century.

Economy:
In terms of employment, the health care and social assistance industry is the biggest player in Springfield accounting for 35 percent of the workforce. Manufacturing comes in a close second on 33 percent with retail in third place. Then follow accommodation and food services, educational services, finance and insurance, and transportation. The main contributors to the local economy are transportation equipment, fabricated metal products, machinery, electric equipment and food processing. And the main agricultural output consists of cattle, dairy products, tomatoes, corn, soybeans, hogs, poultry and eggs.

Tourism:
If you are looking for a truly unique travel destination, look no further than Springfield, Ohio. And, if you love antiques then you will fall in love with Springfield. Events are organized every season so there is always something of interest in this part of Ohio. The City is easily accessed through its strategic central location near the I-70 and I-75 interchanges. There are a number of “must see” venues down Springfield way such as the Clark State Performing Arts Center and the Springfield Museum of Art. A tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House will not disappoint you either. Oh, and don’t forget Pennsylvania House. For outdoor activities try Buck Creek State Park which lies to the northeast of Springfield and is a large recreational area well worth visiting for the day. The National Trails Parks and Recreation facility located in the City is well worth the effort too.
