Riverside, California

Riverside, California may be known as the home of the Naval Orange, but there is so much more than just fruit here. Mount Rubidoux is one of the great attractions in Riverside, California. Here, visitors can experience trails up the sides of the mountains, cactus and California poppy flowers. You will see the residential homes that have been built mountainside by people moving to Riverside who prefer to see the raccoons, possums, squirrels, skunks and lizards on a regular basis. Other sites in Riverside include 100 city landmarks, 20 national registrar sites and two national landmarks. There is the Mission Inn that was expanded greatly over the years since it was owned by Captain Christopher Columbus Miller in 1874, the Heritage House that was formerly the Catherin Bettner home, and the Riverside Art Museum that was designed by famous woman architect Julia Morgan.

Economy:
Riverside’s economy may be built upon the foundations of agriculture and the arrival of the Naval Orange, but this city has adopted other kinds of agriculture to make a diverse economy. Riverside, California has boasted some of the largest numbers of businesses and jobs, according to the Riverside’s Development Depart Activity Update, for some years now. Right now, there is a real push for high-tech industries. The recent acquisition of the Riverside Regional Technology Park is a sign of that change. This locale is offer people the benefit of a new high-speed fiber optic telecommunication system. Natives and people moving to Riverside usually have jobs in producing wood, glass, metal, food, vehicles and imaging equipment. It’s no wonder Riverside moving companies are doing so well with the great amount of jobs and attractions here.

History:
Riverside, California was founded by John W. North who also founded Northfield, Minnesota before moving to California from Tennessee. It was a great spot that he settled in right by the Santa Ana River. A few years after his arrival, the naval orange was the great cash crop of the city. The Naval Orange, originally from Bahia, Brazil became Riverside’s claim to fame. Eliza Tibbets was the first one to plant these trees after receiving three of these trees from a friend called William Saunders who has been a horticulturist from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This was the start of another “gold” rush… this time with the naval industry. By 1882, there were more than half a million citrus trees in California—half still in Riverside. This growth of product brought along with it the development of refrigerated railroad cars, irrigation systems and hotels.

Tourism:
Making a visit to the Riverside County in California, you will have to make the best of it by taking advantage of the close location beside the Santa Ana River and the metropolitan area of Southern California. Riverside is also ever close to Los Angeles for those who feel a hankering to visit. But, for those who want to explore Riverside to the fullest, there are plenty of things to do. Some of the great things you can do are visit the Riverside Fox Theater—the theater that featured the first showing of "Gone With the Wind "(1939), see the magical sight of the “World’s Largest Paper Cup” by the Dixie Corporation, or you can skip forward directly to the natural wonders residing in Riverside. I am talking about the Box Springs Mountain, Lake Mathews, Mount Rubidoux or the Moreno Valley.
