Huntington Beach, California

Close your eyes for a second and imagine a great beach town with good company. Picture pristine waters, hot sand and hundreds of people watching professionals surf in the greatest surfing competition in the world. This is Huntington Beach, California. This seaside paradise is located in Orange County and is home to 192,620 people. It is enclosed by beaches on most sides—the Pacific Ocean on the southwest, Seal Beach on the northwest, Costa Mesa on the east and Newport Beach on the southeast. The area known as Surf City is home of generally sunny skies and strong breezes. After laying out in the sun, drinking by the water or surfing the day away, there’s golf to be played, beach volleyball, bicycling, bird watching or kayaking. Being able to do this daily, year round is enough reason to push most people into moving to Huntington Beach, California.

Economy:
The top employers in Huntington Beach are Boeing, QuikSilver, Cambro Manufacturing and Verizon. The Boeing Corporate Headquarters is the largest global aircraft manufacturer in terms of revenue, orders and delivery flow. Boeing’s presence in Huntington Beach is a real advantage to the area. Huntington Beach greatly benefits from Boeing’s merger with McDonnell Douglas in 1997. Oil still remains as one of the primary revenue exports for the city, but will soon be replaced with tourism when oil runs out. People have always been, and will continually be attracted to the Mediterranean climate, surfing, characteristic Californian life style and major attractions in Orange County. Huntington moving companies are also doing very well as more and more people move to the coast to be close to the surf, sun and year round fun.

History:
Huntington’s first inhabitants were groups of Native Americans who lived abundantly in the area surrounded by water and food. Later, Spanish settlers moved into the land after being given a land grant from the King of Spain. A section called “Las Bolsas” was given to Spanish Soldier Manuel Nieto in 1784. Able Sterns acquired land when the original owners could not pay dealings of debt. Then Sterns went on to acquire the Rancho Las Bolsas that would be today’s Huntington Beach in Orange County. Sterns went on to make a profitable sale of the Rancho to the Los Angeles and San Bernardino Land Company. The land set the stage for rapid development of the Santa Ana Valley which went on to include the City of Huntington Beach.

Tourism:
Surfing is a way of life in Huntington Beach, California. If you surf, there are miles and miles of water off the coast to catch all the gnarly waves or not. If you don’t surf, you can still partake by learning the effects of the sport on the region and the story behind it. Did you know that surfing has a “father?” Duke Kahanamoku is called the “Father of Surfing” because he was the first one to surf the Huntington Beach piece in the early 20th century. Surfing started off being only popular in some parts of the world—Hawaii, Australia and California. But, by the 1960s, the rest of the world caught up to the amazing sport. National and international competitions popped up coast to coast. Small beach towns turned into surfing metropolitans like Huntington Beach. In July, in the OC city, there is the Nation Scholastic Surfing Association National Open Championships at the Pacific Coast Highway. On the Fourth of July, there’s the 106 the Annual Huntington Beach Fourth of July Parade in the midst of concerts and celebrations in honor of the beach town.
