When looking to hire a real estate attorney that specializes in residential real estate, here are eight key questions to ask:
- What percent of the practice is in Real Estate?
- How many years is the attorney practicing in Real Estate?
- What accreditations and affiliations does the attorney have?
- How much will this cost? Is that a flat or hourly fee?
- What does the fee cover specifically? The attorney may have a letter of engagement that you can review. It outlines what the attorney will do for you and the fee he will charge.
- What is the process?
- Will the lawyer handle the case personally or pass it on to someone else? If so can you meet with this person?
- Does the lawyer foresee any problems with this transaction e.g. conflict of interest.
