Government Resources When Moving With Pets

Just like with other members of your family, moving day will be a great deal of stress for your four-legged family members, better known as your pets. When moving with pets, try to stick to their routine as much as possible in the days as you approach your actual move date. Continue to carry out normal activities and try not to break your pets routine too much. By way of example - if you walk your dog each morning at 8:00 a.m. continue to do so up to and including the actual date of the move.

It is a good idea to ask a family member to assume responsibility for your pet during the days of the move. If this is not possible you might consider hiring a professional pet service for the day or couple of days you will be packing and moving. These pet services have cropped up all over U.S. and are available in many cities and towns. Some pet moving companies even offer door-to-door service where you pet is picked up at your home and is delivered to your new home on a predetermined date. If you are traveling with your pet during your move, you will have to adhere to pet guidelines; whether you are transporting them by air or by a car.

Some pets become very scared and may attempt to run away or escape during all of this irregular activity. Be careful with open doors and gates, as it only takes one door to be left open to the outside unintentionally and your pet could be gone and you could be facing a desperate search for you pet on moving day. Another option that may be helpful is to make moving day pleasant for your pets and keeping them calm such as having them stay with a family or friend until you have moved in to your new home and everything is unpacked.
