Remodeling Kitchens and Bathrooms

Although at first you may not think there are too many similarities between bathroom and kitchen remodeling projects, think again. Bathrooms and kitchens have so much in common such as plumbing needs for sinks, tile for floor and walls and cabinets to put your dishes or personal supplies.

You can never be too informed about what to expect and how to plan and carry out the work. Understanding the process is important because although you can perform some phases of a job independently of others, may depend on other tasks being completed first.

Think of this as the domino effect. All bathrooms and kitchens are different however there are really more similarities than differences. Decide on and make a list of the elements you plan to change in the kitchen and bathroom. The more time you spend upfront refining the process the less time you waste after you begin the actual remodeling. When you understand the process of remodeling, you are better prepared to know what to expect. There are many stages in a typical remodeling process so we will start at the very beginning.

Permits
You care about to begin your remodeling and have remembered you might need a permit. Stop and do not begin until you have a building permit in hand. You do not want a building inspector calling to your home to discover you in the middle of a renovation without a permit. If you have hired a contractor to do the work he is required to deal with getting any needed permits before beginning any work. You may be required to display the permit before the job gets underway.
