Keys to a Productive Job Search

Set Goals
Set goals daily and weekly for yourself and review these regularly. These do not have to be hard to meet or stretch goals but ones that move you forward in your search.

Plan, Prioritize each day
At the start of each day you need to plan out a "to do" list. You need to prioritize this list and remain flexible as the list will grow as the week progresses.

Prioritize Tasks
Each day and week, prioritize what needs to be done to get you closer to a new job. You may have to attend an interview that is obviously the priority. You may also have a choice of drumming up leads or refining your resume for a specific company. Common sense should dictate the priority. Ask yourself the question "which of these tasks will get me a step closer to my new job"?

Avoid Busywork
Busywork is an expression commonly used in companies today to describe no productive work. For example, is it really worth your time and effort researching a company you do not have an interview for and may never have an interview for.

Establish a Routine
It may sound like basic advice however it is important to have some structure around your job search. Again, be flexible as things change.

Don't Procrastinate
Procrastination is the enemy of progress. We all procrastinate at some level but every decision you do not make puts you a little further away from that new position.

If you are somebody who is constantly procrastinating try to break the cycle head on by setting up a "to do" list for yourself and drive yourself to complete that list.
